Why Can’t I See My Shortcuts on Facebook

You Don’t Have Any Shortcuts Set Up

The most obvious reason you may not see any shortcuts is if you haven’t actually set any up yet. Facebook shortcuts allow you to quickly access certain pages or perform actions within Facebook with a single click. But you have to actively add these shortcuts first in your Settings.

To add shortcuts:

  1. Click on the down arrow in the top right corner of Facebook.
  2. Select “Settings & Privacy” > “Settings”.
  3. Go to the “Your Shortcuts” section.
  4. Click “Edit” and “+” to add new shortcuts to pages, groups, events or specific actions.

Once you have some shortcuts setup, you’ll be able to access them from the shortcuts menu that appears when you click the down arrow.

The Shortcuts Menu is Disabled

If you previously had shortcuts set up but can no longer access the shortcuts menu, it may have gotten disabled somehow.

To re-enable it:

  1. Go to “Settings & Privacy” > “Settings” as explained above.
  2. Go to the “Your Shortcuts” section.
  3. Make sure “Show Shortcuts Menu” is toggled on (blue).

This will make the shortcuts menu reappear when clicking the down arrow in the top corner of Facebook.

You’re Using the Mobile App

The full shortcuts menu is only available on the desktop version of Facebook. In the Facebook mobile app, there is no downward arrow icon to access it.

However, some of your most used shortcuts may appear at the top of the menu (three line “hamburger” icon) in the mobile app. For example, shortcuts to pages you manage typically appear there.

But to access your full list of shortcuts, you’ll need to use the Facebook desktop website.

Your Browser Has an Extension Blocking It

Some browser extensions like ad blockers can sometimes block or hide Facebook features from working properly – including shortcuts.

Try disabling any extensions temporarily and see if the shortcuts menu starts working normally again.

If that fixes it, you can whitelist Facebook in that extension’s settings to prevent it from being blocked in the future.

You’re Using an Unsupported Browser

Facebook’s shortcuts feature may not be fully supported in some older or uncommon web browsers.

Make sure you are using a current, mainstream web browser like Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge. The shortcuts functionality is regularly tested and confirmed working in those.

If you switch from an older browser to one of those browsers, the shortcuts menu should work.

Your Facebook Account is Restricted

In some cases, Facebook may restrict certain features in your account – this could potentially include use of shortcuts.

This is more likely to occur if your account has been flagged for potential policy violations or suspicious activity in the past.

You can check if your account is restricted by going to “Settings” > “Account Ownership and Control” and looking for any warnings or notifications about restrictions.

If your account has been temporarily restricted in some way, you’ll need to resolve whatever issue triggered that and wait for Facebook to lift the restriction before all normal features will be available again.

Facebook is Having Technical Issues

Like any website or platform, Facebook can have intermittent technical glitches that cause problems not experienced by all users. Issues displaying or using shortcuts could be one such temporary glitch.

Check Facebook’s system status page or Downdetector to see if others are reporting widespread problems accessing Facebook features.

If so, the only option may be waiting for Facebook’s engineers to resolve the problem on their end. Bookmark those sites to check back for updates on any restored service.

Clearing Cookies/Cache

As a last resort, try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache related to Facebook. Sometimes this can resolve odd glitches like shortcuts not showing properly.

Note that it will log you out of Facebook, so you’ll need to log back in.

Instructions for clearing cookies/cache in major browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear Browsing Data
  • Firefox: Options/Preferences > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All
  • Edge: Settings > Privacy, Search & Services > Choose what to clear

After clearing cookies/cache and logging back into Facebook, check if you can now see and access your shortcuts normally again.

Still Not Working?

If you’ve tried all troubleshooting steps and are still unable to access your Facebook shortcuts, your best bet is to contact Facebook support directly:

  • Go to Facebook’s Help Center
  • Click “Contact Us” and select the issue type as “Account Settings”
  • Explain you cannot see or access your shortcuts

Facebook’s support team may be able to further diagnose and resolve the issue on their end, especially if it appears to be an account-specific problem.
