Where Is the Shortcut Settings on Facebook?

If you’re looking to customize or find the keyboard shortcut settings on Facebook, the process differs depending on whether you are accessing Facebook on a mobile app or web browser. Here’s a quick guide to locating the shortcut settings no matter how you access Facebook:

Facebook Mobile App

The Facebook mobile app does not have a dedicated keyboard shortcut settings page. However, there are a few shortcuts you can use:

  • On iOS, quickly scroll to the top of your News Feed by tapping the status bar at the top of the screen.
  • On Android, double tap on a post to like it.

That’s it for built-in shortcuts on the Facebook mobile apps currently. There are no options to customize or add additional shortcuts.

Facebook Website

The Facebook website has a dedicated Keyboard Shortcuts settings page that allows you to view and customize available shortcuts:

  1. Click on the down arrow in the top right corner of any Facebook page.
  2. Select “Settings & Privacy” from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on “Settings” in the left sidebar.
  4. Select “Keyboard Shortcuts” under the General Account Settings section.

This will open the Keyboard Shortcuts page where you can view and customize shortcuts for actions like:

  • Scrolling through News Feed
  • Liking, commenting and reacting to posts
  • Opening and closing menus
  • Navigating between sections and pages

Some examples of default shortcuts include:

  • Press J or shift + down arrow to scroll down News Feed
  • Press K or shift + up arrow to scroll up News Feed
  • Press L to like a selected post or comment
  • Press C to comment on a selected post
  • Press / to open the navigation menu

To customize shortcuts:

  1. Click into a shortcut action’s input field to highlight it.
  2. Enter your preferred key.
  3. Click “Save Changes” to apply your new shortcut.

You can reset shortcuts back to default by clicking “Reset Shortcuts” on the right side of the page.

Admins of Facebook Business pages can also set up keyboard shortcuts specifically for managing their pages:

  1. Go to your Facebook Business Page.
  2. Click “Settings” at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  3. Select “Keyboard Shortcuts” under General.

This will open the Business Page keyboard shortcuts that allow you to quickly navigate between page sections like:

  • News Feed
  • Messages
  • Notifications
  • Publishing Tools
  • Insights

Some examples of Business Page shortcuts include:

  • Press N to open Notifications
  • Press I to view Insights
  • Press P to access Publishing Tools
  • Press M to open Messages

The process of customizing and resetting shortcuts is the same as on a personal Facebook profile.

Shortcut Settings in Facebook Groups

If you manage a Facebook Group, you can set up keyboard shortcuts specifically for that group:

  1. Go to your Facebook Group page.
  2. Click “Settings” at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  3. Select “Keyboard Shortcuts” under General to customize shortcuts.

Group admin shortcuts allow quick access to sections like:

  • Posts
  • Members
  • Settings
  • Notifications

Some sample Group admin shortcuts include:

  • Press P for Posts
  • Press M for Members
  • Press S for Settings
  • Press N for Notifications

The process of customizing and resetting shortcuts is the same as other areas of Facebook.

Enabling Keyboard Shortcuts

Keep in mind that keyboard shortcuts only work when using Facebook in a desktop browser, not in mobile apps. And you need to enable shortcuts in your Settings for them to work:

  1. Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  2. Under General Account Settings, toggle “Keyboard Shortcuts” on.

Once enabled, you can use your keyboard shortcuts while browsing Facebook. Customize them to suit your preferences for quick navigation and actions!
