How do I export all events from Facebook?

How do I export all events from Facebook?

Facebook events allow users to create and manage events, invite friends, and coordinate plans. While Facebook stores all event history, there is no direct way to export a bulk history of all events you’ve created, been invited to, or attended. However, there are a few methods you can use to export your Facebook event history in different ways.

Why export Facebook events?

Here are some common reasons you may want to export your Facebook event history:

  • To have a backup of your event history outside of Facebook
  • To view and analyze event history and statistics outside of Facebook
  • To import your event history into another calendar app
  • To have records of events for taxes, booking venues, etc.
  • To create archives of event milestones like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Methods to export Facebook events

There are a few different methods you can use to export some or all of your Facebook event history and details:

Export single events

For individual events you’ve created or are attending, you can export each event’s details:

  1. Go to the specific event page
  2. Click on the More button (…) in the top right
  3. Select Export Event
  4. Choose to export as an ICS file, Facebook HTML, or JSON format
  5. The file will download with the event details you can open or import into another calendar

This lets you export individual important events, but does not provide a complete bulk export of all your Facebook events.

Use the Access Your Information tool

Facebook provides an Access Your Information tool that lets you download certain data from your account. This includes a copy of Events you’ve created and Events you’re Attending:

  1. Go to Settings & Privacy
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Go to Your Facebook Information
  4. Click on Download Your Information
  5. Select Events you’ve created and Events you’re attending
  6. Click Create File
  7. Facebook will compile and email you a download link when ready (may take a few days)
  8. Download, uncompress, and open the HTML file
  9. Your event history will be listed in table format that you can view or convert into other formats

This provides a bulk export of your event history, but only includes events you’ve created or accepted invitations to. It does not include declined events, maybe responses, or events you’ve been invited to but have not responded.

Use a third-party Facebook data export tool

There are various third-party tools and services that can connect to your Facebook account and export more comprehensive event data:

  • Social Book Post Manager – Chrome extension that can export all events you are invited to or interested in attending
  • Swift Social – Provides custom data exports from Facebook including events
  • HubSpot Social Media – Marketing and CRM tool that can extract event data from Facebook

These tools often require connecting your Facebook account and paying for the service. But they provide the most complete export of your entire Facebook event history and RSVP status.

What event data can be exported?

The event details that can be exported depends on the export method:

Export Method Event Details Available
Single Event Export
  • Event name
  • Event date/time
  • Event location
  • Event description
  • Host name
  • Attendee list
Access Your Information Tool
  • Event name
  • Event date
  • Event location
  • Host name
Third-Party Tools
  • Event name
  • Date created
  • Event date/time
  • Location
  • Description
  • Host name
  • Attendee list and RSVP status
  • Comments

As you can see, third-party tools provide the most complete set of event data for a full export.

Limitations of Facebook event exports

Some limitations to keep in mind when exporting Facebook event data:

  • No single Facebook export method provides a complete history of all event interactions
  • Access Your Information and third-party exports rely on what data Facebook provides via API
  • Facebook may limit API event exports to the past 1-2 years
  • Exporting recurring event series will only include basic instance details
  • Related data like posts, photos, and videos from events are not included

Due to API restrictions, there is no way currently to export your entire event history including RSVPs, maybe responses, declined events, etc. Partial data can be obtained through the methods discussed above.

Importing Facebook events into other calendars

Once you’ve exported event data from Facebook, you can import the events into external calendars or apps:

Google Calendar

  1. Export events from Facebook as ICS files
  2. In Google Calendar, click Import & Export > Import
  3. Upload the ICS files
  4. The events will be added to your Google Calendar

Outlook Calendar

  1. In Outlook, go to Manage > Import/Export
  2. Choose to import an ICS file and select your exported ICS files
  3. Outlook will import all the events into your calendar

Other calendars

Apps like Apple Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, and more also allow importing ICS files. Or you can use the HTML or CSV data exports and try importing those into other calendar apps as well.

Automating Facebook event exports

Manually exporting Facebook event data on a one-time basis provides a snapshot of your event history. However, you can also set up automated exports to backup and collect data on an ongoing basis:

  • Use a third-party tool that allows scheduling automated exports via API on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
  • Use a web scraper bot to login via API and regularly export event data to CSV, Excel, etc.
  • Use IFTTT applets to connect Facebook to a Google Sheet or other app and append new event data on a schedule

Automating event data exports takes more technical setup but allows you to build a complete archive of your Facebook event history.

Other options for accessing Facebook event history

If exporting your event data from Facebook is not possible or practical, there are a couple other options for accessing event history:

  • Browsing history on Facebook – You can still scroll back through your Facebook timeline and browse events you’ve created, RSVP’d to, and more. No export needed.
  • Download your complete Facebook data – Request your full account archive from Facebook, which will include event history buried deep in the HTML files.

While not clean exports, these options give you access to your personal event data for viewing and searching.

Conclusion

Exporting your entire Facebook event history is not possible directly through Facebook tools. However, you can use single event exports, Facebook’s Access Your Information tool, third-party tools, and automated scripts to extract partial event data.

Keep in mind Facebook’s API limitations when exporting event data. You may need to supplement automated exports with manual look-ups on Facebook itself for a truly complete archive of your event history.
