How do I edit or delete my post action button on Facebook?

Facebook’s post action buttons allow you to quickly react, comment, share, or otherwise interact with a post without having to go into the post itself. The post action buttons appear right below a post on desktop and mobile. However, sometimes you may want to edit or delete a post action you have taken. Here’s how to do it.

Editing or Deleting Reactions

If you react to a post using the Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, or Angry reactions, you can easily edit or delete your reaction:

  1. Go to the post you reacted to
  2. Hover over the reaction icon you used
  3. Click on the reaction icon again to change your reaction, or click the X icon next to your name to unlike the post

That’s all there is to it! Once you change or remove your reaction, it will update right away.

Changing Reactions on Mobile

On mobile, you can change or remove a reaction by:

  1. Tap and hold on the reaction icon you used
  2. Select a different reaction icon to change your reaction, or select the X icon to unlike the post

Editing or Deleting Comments

To edit or delete a comment you’ve left on a post:

  1. Go to the post you commented on
  2. Hover over your comment and click the X icon to delete it, or click the pencil icon to edit it
  3. Make your changes and click Save to confirm

On mobile:

  1. Tap and hold on your comment
  2. Tap Edit or Delete
  3. Make your changes and tap Save, or confirm the deletion

Additional Tips for Commenting

  • You can only edit or delete your own comments, not those from other people
  • Edited comments will show that they have been edited
  • You have up to 10 minutes to edit or delete a comment after posting it

Deleting Shares

If you’ve shared someone else’s post to your timeline, here is how to delete it:

  1. Go to your timeline and find the shared post
  2. Click the three dots in the top right corner of the post
  3. Select Stop Sharing this Post

On mobile:

  1. Go to your timeline and find the shared post
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the post
  3. Tap Stop Sharing this Post

Once you stop sharing the post, it will be immediately removed from your timeline.

What Happens When You Delete a Share

  • The original post will not be deleted from where it was originally posted
  • If you shared the post to a Group, it will be removed from that Group’s feed
  • Any reactions and comments on your shared post will also be deleted

Removing Saved Posts

If you’ve saved a post to refer back to later, here is how to remove it from your saved posts list:

  1. Go to your profile and click Saved in the left menu
  2. Find the post you want to remove and click the bookmark icon to unsave it

On mobile:

  1. Go to your profile and tap Saved Posts
  2. Tap the bookmark icon on the post to unsave it

Once unsaved, the post will no longer appear in your saved posts list.

  • Desktop: Your profile > Left menu > Saved

Removing Posts You’re Tagged In

When someone tags you in a post, story, or comment, it will appear in your Tagged posts list. Here’s how to remove it:

  1. Go to your profile and click Tagged in the left menu
  2. Find the post you want to remove and click the X icon in the top right corner
  3. Confirm by clicking Remove Tag

On mobile:

  1. Go to your profile and tap Tagged
  2. Tap the three dots icon next to the post
  3. Tap Remove Me from Post

This will untag you from the post so it no longer appears in your Tagged list.

What Happens When You Remove a Tag

  • Your name/tag will be removed from the actual post

Turning Off Notifications for a Post

If a post is generating too many notifications, you can turn them off:

If you come across a post that is harassing, offensive or otherwise problematic, you can report it to Facebook for review:

  1. Click the three dots in the top right of the post
  2. Select Find Support or Report Post
  3. Choose the option that best describes the issue and submit your report

On mobile:

  1. Tap the three dots icon
  2. Tap Find Support or Report Post
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your report

This will submit the post to Facebook for review by their Community Operations team. They may remove the post if it violates their Community Standards.

  • You will no longer see their posts, stories, or be able to contact them
  • They will not be notified that you blocked them
  • Any current connections will be removed between you

Leaving a Facebook Group

Deleting Your Facebook Account
